The Winchester Brewery limited

Unit 19, Longbridge Industrial Park, Floating Bridge Road, Southampton.

Brewing started                       January 2005

Brewing ceased                       2007.

This was a very short lived enterprise from a brewery which started in 2004 and commenced brewing in January 2005 on the Southampton side of the Itchen Bridge.

It was run by David Wealleans and Phil Ambrose via a Company,  the Winchester Brewery Limited. They built the brewing plant from scratch. In 2006, Nick Harper was taken on as a partner.

The brewery intended to operate from Winchester but last minute issues meant that they had to take a lease of  premises in Southampton, presumably whilst trying to find another site in Winchester.

They brewed four core beers plus seasonal offerings and in 2007 were supplying 30 outlets. They also produced bottle conditioned beer.

Brewing ceased in 2007, and the Company was dissolved on 28th January 2010 through a Creditors Voluntary Liquidation.

Their beers were;

Best Bitter (3.7% ABV)

Summer of ’76 (3.7% ABV).

West Window (4.5 %ABV)

Trusty Servant, (4.7% ABV), which was overall winner of Beer of the Festival at the Southampton Beer Festival in 2005.

Swithun Gold (5%ABV)
